What the card buys
An Xbox gift card adds credit to your Microsoft account. You spend it on Xbox and PC games, add-ons, in-game currency, and Game Pass or other Microsoft Store items.
CubieMart also sells Game Pass codes directly. Those add subscription time and are redeemed the same way, but they are not credit — you cannot spend them on something else.
Xbox gift cards carry a currency. A USD card will only redeem on a Microsoft account whose country is set to a USD market. Microsoft also clears your existing balance when you change your account country, so switching is not a workaround.
Check your Microsoft account country

Sign in to your Microsoft account on the web
Look under your profile or payment and billing settings for Country/Region. That is the setting the gift card is checked against.

Or check the Microsoft Store currency on your console
Open the store and look at any game price. That currency is what your card must be in.

Match the region chip on the listing
It sits next to the price. Do it before you pay — buying the wrong region is not covered.
Where your code arrives
My Orders at /account/orders, open the order, and the code is printed on it under a green DELIVERED heading, with a Download as .txt button beside it. An Xbox code is 25 characters, written as five groups of five.
Common questions
Does an Xbox card work on PC too?
Yes — it is Microsoft account credit, so it works anywhere that account shops in the Microsoft Store, console or PC.
I have credit but the game still asks for a card.
That usually means the item is priced in a different currency from your credit, or it is a subscription renewal that needs a saved payment method. Neither is a fault in the code.
Xbox says the code has already been redeemed.
