What the Player Tag is
Clash of Clans gives every account a short code made of letters and digits, printed with a hash in front. That is the Player Tag, and it is how a seller finds your village.
Your clan has its own tag that looks almost identical. They are not interchangeable, and mixing them up is the classic Clash mistake.
Where to find it

Open the game on your village
Be on the account you want the Gems on.

Open your own profile
Tap your name or your avatar to open your player profile, not the clan screen.

Read the tag under your name
It is the short code beginning with a hash, usually with a copy option beside it.

Copy it
Letters and digits that look alike are common in these tags. Copying removes the risk entirely.
A wrong tag points the top-up at someone else's village. Once delivered it cannot be pulled back and is not refundable.
Mistakes people actually make
- Copying the clan tag from the clan screen.
- Sending the village name instead of the tag.
- Typing the tag out and swapping a 0 for an O.
- Copying from a second village on the same device.

How do I tell my tag from the clan tag?
By where you found it. A tag under your player name on your profile is yours; a tag on the clan screen belongs to the clan.
Is the tag safe to share?
Yes, it is only an address. A login code sent to your email or phone is not, and no top-up needs one.
