Check your account region before you buy a gift card

Almost every gift card only works on an account set to the same country as the card, and buying the wrong region is not covered.

Updated 2026-08-12

Why region decides everything

A gift card is issued in one country and in one currency. The platform checks that country against your account before it will add the balance. If they do not match, you get an error and nothing is added.

This is the most common reason a working code looks broken. The code is fine — it is simply not for your account.

A Bangladesh account will not take a US card, and a US account will not take a Turkey card. Buying the cheaper region and hoping it works is the fastest way to lose money on this site.

The code appears on your order page as soon as it is delivered — there is no separate step where you choose to see it, and no way to un-see it afterwards. Buying the wrong region when the listing stated it is not covered, so check the region chip on the listing before you pay, not after.

Find your account region

  1. 1

Open the account or profile settings of that platform

Every store keeps the country in its own account settings — not in your phone settings, and not in your SIM. Look for a field named Country, Region or Country/Region.

  2. 2

Read the currency it shows you

If prices in that store show in USD, the account is almost certainly a US account. BDT means a Bangladesh account. The currency is a faster check than the settings screen.

  3. 3

Buy the card for that country, not for the country you want

The region chip sits next to the price on the product page. Match it to what you just read.

Things that do not change your region

  • A VPN. It changes where your traffic comes from, not what country your account is registered in.
  • Your phone language or keyboard.
  • Which app store you downloaded the app from.
  • The country on your payment card. Most stores keep account country and billing country separate.

Common questions

Can I just switch my account to the other country?

Sometimes, but it is a one-way trip on most platforms. Balance you already hold usually does not travel with you, and some stores make you wait before you can switch back. Read that platform's guide in this section before you touch the setting.

I bought the wrong region. Is there anything I can do?

It depends on whether the code has been delivered yet. If it has not, message the seller from the order page straight away and ask them to cancel — before delivery a correction is sometimes still possible. Once the code has been delivered it is printed on your order page, and buying the wrong region when the listing stated it is not covered. Details are in /help/refunds.

Does "Global" on a listing mean any country?

It means the seller is not restricting it to one region, but the platform still applies its own rules. For gift cards that carry a currency, treat Global as "read the listing description" rather than "works everywhere".
